BMW Motorcycle Pages
My Current Bikes
- R1200GS
- Coming soon! Until then, just pictures.
- K1200RS - info - owned June 2010 - present
- The K1200 engine, the last of the "flying bricks", was the late-90s update of the 3rd-generation K engine, BMW's foray into the world of 4 cylinders and liquid cooling.
My Former Bikes
- R1100GS - info - owned Sept 2001 - Aug 2003 and Nov 2007 - Dec 2010
- The R1100GS platform was the 2nd generation of BMW's "dual sport" or "on/off road" motorcycle, a genre now known as adventure bikes. While not explosively popular in its first generation, later variations (R1150/R1200) have proven to be BMW's best-selling motorcycles.
- R850R - info - owned May 2006 - Jan 2008
- The R850 platform is a highly overlooked (in the US anyway) motorcycle. Released the same time as the original R1100xx bikes, the R850 offered a slightly smaller option for those not interested in the new 1100. Even though I no longer own this bike, I've kept the info & mods pages up, as I get a lot of traffic & questions about the bike.
The repairs, replacements, modifications and what-not on the following page(s) have all been done by me on my 1997 R850R (sold Jan 2008) or 1995 R1100GS (bought Nov 2007). Many of the procedures can apply to other BMW bikes of similar vintage, primarily the R1100R, but also the R1100RT and RS. Do not attempt any of these procedures unless you're confident in your skills - however limited - as a shade-tree mechanic. Don't send me hate mail if you mess something up!!

In the above photos, you can see me with my '98 K-RS (left) and '95 R-GS in early August 2009. Obvious modifications to the R bike are:
- Windscreen (Givi)
- Touratech "hard part" steering stop (look on the A-arm)
- Driving lights
- Crash bars (sourced from Twisted Throttle)
- Sargent seat
- Wide, grippy, and rotatable footpegs (Pivot Pegz)
- Top case (Caribou Cases)
- Street tires (Metzeler Z6) instead of standard Tourance tires
- Lowered exhaust

Everybody loves links, right?
